چکیده

The hydroelastic response of mat-type Very Large Floating Structures (VLFSs) to severe sea conditions, such as tsunamis and hurricanes, must be assessed for safety and survivability. An efficient and robust nonlinear hydroelastic model is required to predict accurately the motion of and the dynamic loads on a VLFS due to such large waves. We develop a nonlinear theory to predict the hydroelastic response of a VLFS in the presence of cnoidal waves and compare the predictions with the linear theory that is also developed here. This hydroelastic problem is formulated by directly coupling the structure with the fluid, by use of the Level I Green-Naghdi theory for the fluid motion and the Kirchhoff thin plate theory for the runway. The coupled fluid structure system, together with the appropriate jump conditions are solved in two-dimensions by the finite-difference method. The numerical model is used to study the nonlinear response of a VLFS to storm waves which are modeled by use of the cnoidal-wave theory. Parametric studies show that the nonlinearity of the waves is very important in accurately predicting the dynamic bending moment and wave run-up on a VLFS in high seas. C © 2014 AIP Publishing LLC. Interaction of hydro-elastic waves with a vertical wall

This study aims to gain knowledge on how hydroelastic waves interact with off-shore structures, for example off-shore wind turbines or oil rigs. The linear two-dimensional problem of hydroelastic waves reflected by a vertical wall is analysed. Water is of finite depth and is covered by ice. The fluid is assumed incompressible and inviscid. The ice sheet is assumed thin compared with both the wa...

کاربرد الگوریتم ژنتیک ساده در طراحی بهینه الگوی مهاربندی

In this paper, the procedure of developing an unconstrained Genetic Algorithm code to solve mooring pattern optimization problems for floating structures is described. How to spread mooring lines around the offshore structures and tension level of these lines are the factors that have direct effect on response or offset of floating units which experience environmental conditions such as waves, ...

Past, present and impendent hydroelastic challenges in the polar and subpolar seas.

Current and emergent advances are examined on the topic of hydroelasticity theory applied to natural sea ice responding to the action of ocean surface waves and swell, with attention focused on methods that portray sea ice more faithfully as opposed to those that oversimplify interactions with a poor imitation of reality. A succession of authors have confronted and solved by various means the d...

Hydroelastic analysis of plates and some approximations

The paper concerns the modelling of very large pontoon-type floating structures by thin beams and plates of shallow draft, excited by regular waves. It is shown how the classical theory of hydroelasticity, involving the concepts of added mass and damping associated with the structural responses, may be reconciled with more recent formulations. In the latter, coupled equations for displacement a...

Nonlinear frequency combs generated by cnoidal waves in microring resonators

Cnoidal waves are the periodic analog of solitons. Like solitons, they can be generated in microresonators and correspond to frequency combs. The generation of frequency combs in nonlinear microresonators is modeled by the Lugiato–Lefever equation. In this paper, we study the Lugiato–Lefever equation for a microresonator in the anomalous dispersion regime. In the lossless case, we show that the...
